The Arts Club Charitable Trust

Many members may not be aware of the existence and objects of the Trust and other members may not yet have considered joining it and enabling it primarily to benefit struggling artists in all fields.

The Trust is a registered charity and so donations (a minimum donation of twenty pounds is currently required each year for membership) may be made under Gift Aid and legacies are free of inheritance tax. Its management is entirely independent of the Club and, although the Club appoints two members of the Trust’s Executive Committee, the majority of that Committee and its chairman are not on the Club Board. At the same time it is self-evident that the Trust’s objects are consistent with many of those of the Club and that it is hoped that publicity of the charitable work of the Trust will help promote the Club as THE club that all those interested in and furthering the Arts should aspire to join.

You have had the opportunity of seeing the results of some of the Trust’s activities at the exhibition of the work of some past prize-winners of its awards and we hope that many of you will feel inspired to give at least twenty pounds to become a member. We also hope that some of you will be able to help identify struggling artists in any field of the arts generally worthy of a boost who can be helped to progress with a grant of an award by the Trust. Currently the amount of money may seem rather little (the Trust cannot currently contemplate any award of more than a thousand pounds) but the recognition of the artist and the scope for publicity mean that a lot of good can be achieved even with modest resources. Do join us.

Notice of Completion of Codicil Form

Please check that you have completed all the details correctly.

1. Two witnesses are needed. They should both be aged 18 years or over.

2. Please sign your name where indicated on the form in the presence of both witnesses.

3. Please ask them to sign the form, where indicated, in your presence and to add their addresses and occupations.

4. Any alterations to the form should be signed in the margins by yourself and your witnesses.

5. Please do not attach anything to the form, as this could cause problems in the future.

6. The completed Codicil Form should be kept with your Will. Please send it to your solicitor or your bank if necessary.

7. A bequest need not be in the form of money. Specific gifts in the form of property, stocks and shares, valuables or works of art would also be very welcome to the Arts Club charitable Trust.

8. The Arts Club is not a charity; therefore if any Inheritance Tax threshold tax is payable on the bequest, it will be charged on the residue of an estate. Presumably, if the value of the Estate is less than the exemption limit (approximately £230,000), no tax is payable. Your soliciter should be able to advise you on Inheritance Tax.

The Arts Club Summer & Autumn Concert Series

Sadly with the ill fated start of Doom and Gloom, it remained so and we had to withdraw all concerts. We thank all the singers and the pianist for wanting to help the Trust. Deborah Norman was exceptional and the Trust expressed its gratitude in the form of a donation.

In aid of the
Arts Club Charitable Trust and with the support of Robert Tears CBE
each recital
will be preceded by a glass of wine on arrival and followed by supper - 2 course
meal with wine. All the artists have accepted much smaller than usual fees for
their performances and we are grateful to them. The participation has been fixed
to £ 65.00 per person inclusive of service and VAT and include a donation of £
25 to the Trust or £ 600 per tables of ten to include a donation of £ 200.oo to
the Trust . Please make your cheques payable to The Arts Club Charitable Trust
or call 0800 084 21 73 to pay by credit card. Please state you dietary
requirements upon booking.
Friday 13th June – “Doom & Gloom”

Soprano Deborah Norman made her professional debut as Maria in West
Side Story at
La Scala, Milan and at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden singing Chloe in The
Queen of Spades. She has also performed major principal roles with Welsh
National Opera and Opera North as well as in demand internationally for gala
performances. Notable engagements include Naiad in Ariadne
auf Naxos with the London Symphony
Orchestra under Sir Simon Rattle, Carmina Burana at the Royal
Albert Hall, Opera Galas at the Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow & Bridgewater Hall
and CD recordings with EMI
Classics and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Deborah was
.... stunning, she delighted the audience with song from Puccini, Strauss,
Duparc, Faure, some were in tears at her rendition of Alfredo Catalani (1854-1893) Ebben n'andro from La Wall,
Gerschin and " La Veuve Joyeuse" de Lehar.

July – “Swan Upping”
Studying at the Guildhall School of Music &
Drama under the support of the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, tenor Joshua Ellicott took
four of the top prizes at the 2006 International Vocal Competition in
s-Hertogenbosch including the overall first prize. He has performed at London's Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room, Royal
Albert Hall and Barbican Hall, operatic performances with most of the major
British opera houses and recently the role of Narr in Wozzeck for
La Monnaie in Brussels.

15^th August – “All Things British”
Baritone Roland Wood studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and at the National Opera Studio under the
support of the Peter Moores Foundation.
He has understudied and performed operatic roles for European Union Opera,
Aix en Musique Festival, Glyndebourne and English National Opera, as well as opera galas
with the Bayerische Rundfunkorchester and the European Union Youth
Orchestra in Baden-Baden. He has represented England in the Cardiff
Singer of the World (semi-final winner) and in 2008 will be appearing as Renato in Un ballo in maschera for the Nationale Reisopera
in the Netherlands, Alfio in Cavelleria
Rusticana at English National Opera.

Australian
born mezzo-soprano Katrina Waters graduated Royal College of Music’s Benjamin Britten International Opera School
in London with
distinction. She is strongly established as a international artist in demand for
roles here in the UK, Europe
and Australia. She has broadcast on BBC
Radio 3 as part of a masterclass series with Malcolm Martineau. Her opera roles include Meg Page in Falstaff
with Lyrique-en-Me Festival de Belle-Ile, Brittany, Florence Pike (Albert Herring) for
the Aldeburgh International Festival and Bianca in the Rape Of
Lucretia (Britten). Concert highlights include Mahler’s Kindertötenlieder in Canberra and performances in Sydney
Opera House with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra.

Renard”
One of the
world’s most sought after sopranos, Sarah Fox won the 1997 Kathleen
Ferrier award at 24 and began her professional career singing Karolka in
Jenufa for Glyndebourne Festival Opera and has recently performedfirst Rhinemaiden in Wagner’s Ring Cycle, Zerlina (Don
Giovanni) at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and Asteria (Tamerlano)
for the Bayerishe Staatsoper München.
Sarah has appeared regularly at the BBC Proms and Edinburgh Festival with Sir
Charles Mackerras.
Australian
pianist David Barnard graduated from his Bachelor of Music studies at the age of 18 and received national
recognition for his outstanding achievements during his study. He has worked as
an accompanist extensively around the UK, Europe and Australia
accompanying some of the finest singers and instrumentalists in the profession.
He is a Yehudi Menuhin &
Britten-Pears Young Artist.

The Arts Club Charitable TrustRegistered Charity No. 1075950
Established in 2000, the objectives of the Charitable Trust are:

“to promote, maintain, improve and advance education in the arts generally for the benefit of the public and, in particular,

a) By the encouragement of sculpture, painting, design, drawing, lithography, printmaking. graphics, poetry, literature, film, photography, dance and music; and
b) By the advancement of skill and craftsmanship therein.”
The Trust is separate from the Club and its objectives are to support the arts outside the Club. The Trust has, in recent years, granted awards to students and made presentations to artists in recognition of their distinguished services to the arts.
The Arts Club Charitable Trust does have “Charitable Tax Status” and, consequently, there are tax benefits for donors giving or leaving money to the Trust.
